Our First Blog Post
Hello Folks, Janise Garside here. Welcome to our blog. It’s 2017! Mike and I are gearing up for another syrup season on beautiful St. Joseph Island, Ontario, Canada. Home of the best Maple Syrup in the World!
Stay up-to-date with everything new exciting
This will be Mike’s 8th year making delicious syrup, and my third. We are very excited to be running a small batch operation together again with our awesome syrupy family this year. All season we will be day dreaming about the new sugar shack and the excitement for our 3 x 12 evaporator installation we plan to have up and running in 2018.
There are currently 500 or so maple taps, and we select and tap over 100 White and Yellow Birch trees throughout our forest. We have a commitment to our customers and our forest to make quality syrup in a sustainable way. As of January 1, Syrup season begins. We start planning for bottles, cleaning the shack etc. There are many manual labor tasks that go along with what we do, and lately we’ve been getting all the firewood ready for the coming season and hopefully some for next as well. We have also been removing diseased trees from some sections of our forest during the cold spells.
There’s a lot to do in the next couple of months. Keep an eye on our website, social media, and soon will have recipes and other features.
